Hermanus Animal Hospital is the oldest veterinary practice in the Overberg. It started 40 years ago as part of Caledon Veterinary Hospital and has grown to be the largest animal hospital in Hermanus. We offer complete services to small animals, horses, birds, exotic animals, wildlife and a few cattle and sheep. Apart from conventional medicine we also practice complementary medicine and offer a choice of alternative therapies. Hermanus Animal Hospital boasts a special interest equine veterinarian as well as a special interest small animal surgery veterinarian.
The Cape Animal Medical Centre, established in 1996, is made up of a over 30 staff members, including specialists, veterinarians with special interest clinics, general and after-hours veterinarians, qualified nurses and supporting nursing assistants. Marine Way Animal Hospital opened its doors in 1997. The hospital has recently undergone an extensive transformation to include a dedicated vet shop as well as a grooming parlour. George Rex Veterinary Clinic opened its doors in 1995.Our current property was acquired in 2009 and developed into a new spacious modern veterinary clinic with separate cat and dog hospital wards and modern diagnostic and surgical equipment. An indigenous garden was established to blend in with our renowned GARDEN ROUTE and ample safe parking is provided. We offer diagnostic and surgical services to all pets as well as disease prevention and socialisation programmes.
Peninsula Veterinary Hospital was started by Dr Jim Brownlie in the late 1940’s. He was soon joined by Dr Dick Hyam, a classmate from Glasgow University. The partnership expanded to include Fish Hoek Veterinary Clinic run by Drs Clive Mc Donald and Tim Pritchett helping clients from all over the Peninsula. In 1975 the practice moved from Plumstead to the cottage in Diep River, and then in 1979, they moved into the purpose-built hospital.Drs Brownlie and Hyam retired in 1986, with Robert becoming a partner with Clive and Tim in 1987.
Bird Clinic began as the Klapmuts Bird Clinic (near Paarl, Western Cape) and was founded by Dr De Beer, who is not only one of the few specialised avian veterinarians in the country, but also has 40 years of experience in bird breeding and is involved with research and production of cutting edge bird nutrition.
Dr. Emile du Plessis qualified as a veterinarian at Onderstepoort in 1981 after obtaining his B.SC degree from Stellenbosch. He worked in mixed practices in Caledon and Riversdale / Stilbaai and in England before joining the WAHG team in 2002. He specialises in small animal medicine and -surgery in Paarl and handles the clinic in Franschhoek.
